Following the heavy rains and subsequent flooding in the Yelahanka zone of Bengaluru, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has deployed additional IAS and KAS officers from other zones to supervise rescue and relief operations. This decision was made under the orders of BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath.

“Each officer will be assigned specific responsibilities to ensure prompt response to the needs of affected residents. Immediate measures must be taken to resolve issues in the most impacted areas,” stated the official order.

During a meeting held in the rain-affected zone, Girinath emphasized the need for precautionary measures and swift action to relocate residents from the worst-hit areas. He also instructed officials to provide essential supplies such as drinking water, milk, biscuits, and food to residents stranded by the floods.

The commissioner further ordered the deployment of 10-15 HP pumps and fire engines to drain water from severely flooded areas like Bhadrappa Layout and Tata Nagar. He stressed the importance of using JCBs to clear the Rajkaluves (stormwater drains) to facilitate the smooth flow of rainwater.

BBMP has coordinated with municipal officials, BESCOM, police, fire brigade, and personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). These teams, equipped with floodlights, will carry out round-the-clock operations to drain floodwaters.

With more rain forecasted, Girinath directed officials to warn residents in low-lying areas and take preventive measures to avoid further flooding, particularly in zones near already overflowing lakes.

Key officials in attendance included Special Commissioner Suralkar Vikas Kishore, Zonal Commissioner Karigowda, Joint Commissioner Mohammad Naeem Momin, Deputy Commissioner Pallavi, and Chief Engineer Prahlad.

Residents of Kendra Vihar Apartment, one of the severely flooded locations, were rescued by emergency teams earlier today.
