In a significant boost to India’s medical technology sector, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has received the licence to manufacture and distribute its indigenously developed hemodialysis machine, BEL RxT17.
The licence was granted by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation after BEL successfully completed the compliance audit required for Class C high-risk medical devices.
One of India’s First Indigenous Hemodialysis Machines
BEL RxT17, designed by Renalyx and to be manufactured by BEL, is among India’s first indigenous hemodialysis machines.
The device is expected to benefit patients suffering from chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal failure by providing:
- safe dialysis therapy
- efficient blood purification
- reliable long-duration treatment support
This development is seen as an important milestone in reducing dependence on imported dialysis equipment.

CE Certification Opens Global Market Opportunity
In addition to Indian regulatory clearance, BEL RxT17 has also secured CE certification, confirming compliance with European safety, health and environmental standards.
This means the machine now meets internationally accepted regulatory benchmarks and may also find acceptance in overseas markets.
Response to Rising Kidney Disease Burden in India
India is witnessing a steady increase in cases of:
- chronic renal failure
- kidney dysfunction
- end-stage renal disease (ESRD)
As a result, dialysis demand has risen sharply across both urban and semi-urban healthcare systems.
BEL said the machine aims to improve:
- affordability of dialysis care
- accessibility in hospitals and dialysis centres
- availability of indigenous high-quality equipment
Advanced Features of BEL RxT17
The machine includes a range of modern operational features designed for both safety and ease of use.
Key Features
- colour touchscreen display
- real-time device status monitoring
- live treatment readings
- active alarm display
- audio alarms for emergencies
- visual alarms for critical alerts
The interface is designed to support quick clinical decisions during treatment.
Designed for Easy Integration in Hospitals
BEL RxT17 is compatible with standard pharmacy consumables and dialysis disposables already used in hospitals.
This ensures:
- easy adoption without additional procurement burden
- smooth integration into existing dialysis workflows
- lower transition cost for healthcare providers
Its simplified design also supports easier maintenance and operation.
Boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat in Medical Devices
The launch strengthens India’s domestic MedTech manufacturing ecosystem and aligns with the Government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
It also expands BEL’s footprint beyond defence electronics into advanced healthcare manufacturing.
BEL said the machine reflects India’s growing ability to build globally competitive medical technology domestically.
Why This Matters
Until now, a significant share of dialysis machines used in India have relied on imported technology.
BEL RxT17 may help:
- reduce import dependence
- lower equipment costs
- strengthen domestic supply chains
- improve public healthcare resilience
