New Delhi: BEML Limited, a Defence Public Sector Undertaking, announced on Thursday that it has secured a ₹157 crore order from Loram Rail Maintenance India Pvt Ltd for the manufacturing of switch rail grinding machines, a critical asset for railway track maintenance.
The order was confirmed through a regulatory filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Specialised Machines for Safer Rail Operations
Switch rail grinding machines are advanced railway maintenance vehicles designed to grind, smooth, and restore the profile of movable switch rails, which are among the most complex and high-wear components in railway track systems.
These machines help –
- Correct rail defects
- Enhance track geometry
- Extend the life of turnouts, crossings, and other specialised sections
- Ensure safer and smoother train operations
Their precision design makes them indispensable for modern railway networks aiming to improve reliability and reduce maintenance downtimes.
Strengthening India’s Rail Maintenance Capabilities
The partnership between BEML and Loram – one of the world leaders in rail maintenance technologies—marks a strong step toward enhancing India’s rail infrastructure upkeep, increasing operational safety and efficiency across high-density rail corridors.
The machines to be manufactured under this order will support Indian Railways’ growing focus on predictive maintenance, safety modernisation, and lifecycle extension of critical track components.
