Pune: Despite announcing a major collaboration to support India’s indigenous fighter aircraft program, shares of BEML Limited, a Defence Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), dropped over 3.35% in trading on Thursday. The decline comes even as the company disclosed the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Forge Limited and Data Patterns (India) Limited.
The MoU, formalized in Pune on September 26, aims to jointly support the development of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program, a flagship initiative under India’s defence self-reliance drive. The three companies will also participate in the Expression of Interest (EoI) floated by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), the nodal body for AMCA.
A Strategic Push for Indigenous Air Power
The AMCA is India’s next-generation stealth fighter jet project and is critical to modernizing the Indian Air Force’s capabilities. With this partnership, BEML and its collaborators aim to offer integrated solutions in key areas like aerostructures, avionics, systems integration, and advanced manufacturing.
“This collaboration strengthens BEML’s commitment to ‘Make in India’ and marks a significant step in supporting the country’s aerospace ambitions,” the company said in an official statement.

Market Reacts Cautiously
Despite the strategic nature of the agreement, BEML’s stock fell for the fifth consecutive session, recording a total decline of 3.78% over the past week. Market analysts attribute the dip to investor caution, as the announcement is still at a preliminary stage, and no firm contracts or financial details have been disclosed.
“While the MoU is a forward-looking move, investors may be awaiting more concrete developments before re-rating the stock,” said a market analyst.
What’s Next?
The success of this collaboration will depend on ADA’s response to the EoI and the eventual role these companies play in the AMCA production supply chain. The MoU also signals increased private-public cooperation in the defence sector, aligning with India’s push for technology sovereignty and indigenization under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
