BEML Limited, a Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence, has been awarded the prestigious Golden Peacock Eco‑Innovation Award 2025 for its pathbreaking BRS‑21 all‑electric rope shovel—a major leap in sustainable mining equipment.

India’s First All-Electric Shovel for Cleaner Mining

The BRS‑21 is the first indigenously developed, fully electric rope shovel in India. It replaces conventional diesel-based excavators, significantly reducing emissions while improving operational efficiency. Built with in-house engineering, the machine reflects BEML’s dedication to eco-friendly industrial technology and clean energy transition.

Recognition at Environmental Excellence Summit

The award was presented to Shri Rajeev Kumar Gupta, Director (Rail & Metro), during the 26th International Conference on Environment Management and Climate Change held on June 26–27, 2025. The event spotlighted innovations in sustainability and climate-conscious industrial practices.

Leading the Green Transition in Heavy Equipment

During the summit, Gupta showcased BEML’s green initiatives, including:

  • Introduction of electric versions of heavy-duty mining vehicles
  • Solar integration across its manufacturing facilities
  • Adoption of low-carbon, energy-efficient design principles

These efforts align with India’s sustainable development goals and further solidify BEML’s leadership in responsible manufacturing.
