Kolkata: An IPS officer of the Bengal Police and his driver were allegedly attacked by two men near the North Gate of Victoria Memorial Hall on Tuesday night. The incident took place while they were travelling from Bhawani Bhawan to Serampore.
Complaint Filed at Hastings Police Station
According to a complaint lodged by driver Raju Das at Hastings Police Station, the AIG-rank officer had asked him to stop the vehicle to attend a phone call. Das stated that two men walked past them but soon returned, verbally abused him, and began assaulting him.
Officer Also Targeted During Incident
Hearing the commotion, the officer stepped out of the vehicle and was also reportedly attacked. The accused, suspected to be under the influence of drugs, fled the scene after the officer began recording them on his mobile phone. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
