Sangrur: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated the new Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj Hospital in Cheema village on Thursday, marking a significant step toward improving healthcare infrastructure in the region.
Modern Healthcare Facility for Local Communities
Built at a cost of ₹11.70 crore, the hospital features a 30-bed capacity and state-of-the-art medical facilities. The CM highlighted that the hospital will serve 15 villages, benefiting approximately 50,000 residents, while also extending affordable and quality healthcare to 35,000-40,000 residents in surrounding areas.
During his visit, CM Mann interacted with patients and their families, checking on their well-being and reviewing the hospital’s facilities to ensure quality care.
Reducing the Need for Distant Medical Travel
Earlier, due to a lack of facilities, patients from this region had to travel regularly to Sangrur, Patiala, and Ludhiana for treatment. The newly inaugurated hospital now houses modern equipment, along with dedicated emergency and maternal-child wards, enabling residents to access advanced medical care locally.
Expansion and Historical Significance
Originally established in 1975 with 10 beds, the facility was later expanded to 20 beds. Now, with the upgrade to 30 beds, the hospital is fully equipped to meet the growing healthcare demands of the community. CM Mann emphasized the hospital’s connection to Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj, honoring his contributions to education and social service.
Comprehensive Medical Services
The hospital will provide a range of specialized services, including:
- Pediatric care for children
- ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) services
- Dental care
- Free maternal and child health services
- X-ray and blood testing facilities
- Rehabilitation services for patients seeking de-addiction treatment
Future Plans: Medical College in Cheema
CM Mann also announced that a medical college in honor of Sant Attar Singh Ji Maharaj will soon commence in the region. The state government has finalized arrangements and is committed to completing the project efficiently.
“The sole aim is to promote medical education and ensure quality healthcare services in the area,” CM Mann said.
Strong Anti-Drug Initiatives
Highlighting the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Punjab, CM Mann stated that the war against narcotics has disrupted illegal drug supply chains. Many traffickers have been imprisoned, and their properties seized. The government plans to honor citizens who provided crucial information against drug traffickers.
This inauguration not only strengthens healthcare access in Cheema and nearby villages but also represents Punjab’s commitment to modern, community-focused medical services.
