New Delhi: If sources are to be believed, the Centre is preparing for a significant reshuffle of gubernatorial positions, with changes expected in the Lieutenant Governors of both Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. High-level discussions are reportedly underway, and formal announcements may be made in the coming days.
Rajesh Khullar Likely to Be Appointed Delhi L-G
Rajesh Khullar, a retired 1988-batch IAS officer from the Haryana cadre and former Chief Secretary of Haryana, is being considered for appointment as the next Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. He is currently serving as Chief Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Khullar has held various key administrative positions throughout his career and is seen as a trusted bureaucrat within the establishment. His elevation to the L-G post would mark a continuation of the Centre’s strategy to place experienced administrators in politically sensitive union territories.
V K Saxena May Be Moved to Jammu & Kashmir
Sources suggest that incumbent Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena could be shifted to Jammu & Kashmir to replace Manoj Sinha. Saxena, who has held the Delhi L-G post since May 2022, may now be tasked with overseeing the strategically critical Union Territory of J&K as part of this reshuffle.
Manoj Sinha May Return to BJP in Key Role
Manoj Sinha, currently serving as the L-G of Jammu & Kashmir, is widely regarded as a close confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Reports indicate that he may soon be brought back into the political fold, possibly in a significant organisational capacity at the BJP’s national level.
Sinha’s administrative stint in J&K is credited with stabilising the region post-reorganisation, and his potential return to party leadership is being seen as a strategic move ahead of upcoming state and national elections.
Political and Administrative Landscape Set to Shift
These developments, if confirmed, could mark a significant shake-up in the governance structures of both Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. The prospective appointments are being viewed as part of a broader recalibration of the Centre’s strategy in handling key union territories and enhancing coordination between the political and bureaucratic apparatus.
Formal notifications from the Rashtrapati Bhavan are awaited.
