Patna: The demand for Bihar’s women-led food initiative ‘Didi Ki Rasoi’ is steadily rising as it expands its presence from government offices to hospitals and educational institutions across the state. The initiative is being hailed as a successful model of women’s employment and affordable food service.
Inauguration of Annapurna Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi at Patliputra University
The latest expansion came with the inauguration of Annapurna Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi at Patliputra University. The cafeteria was formally inaugurated by Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar, marking another step in scaling the initiative within educational institutions.
The new facility is expected to serve over 500 students and staff members, offering hygienic and affordable meals and snacks on campus.

Expanding Women Employment Through Jeevika Initiative
Speaking at the event, Minister Shrawan Kumar highlighted that Didi Ki Rasoi began as a women employment model under Bihar’s Jeevika initiative and has now become a widely trusted food service system across the state.
He noted that more than:
- 11.67 lakh self-help groups have been formed
- 1.50 crore families have been connected under Jeevika
- 1.81 crore women have received ₹10,000 financial assistance under the women employment scheme
He also announced that urban areas covering over 18 lakh families will soon receive financial support, and women who have already started employment will receive an additional ₹20,000 assistance in the current phase.
Expansion Across Hospitals, Colleges, and Public Institutions
The minister said that Didi Ki Rasoi is now operational in multiple government spaces, including:
- SC/ST hostels
- Medical colleges
- Polytechnic institutions
- District and sub-divisional hospitals
Over 6,000 Jeevika Didis are currently engaged in running these kitchens across Bihar, ensuring both employment generation and affordable food services.

Focus on Quality and Affordability Driving Demand
The growing popularity of Didi Ki Rasoi is attributed to its focus on:
- Hygienic food preparation
- Affordable pricing
- Reliable service quality
Officials stated that demand has been increasing steadily, prompting plans for rapid expansion based on local requirements.
University Leadership Praises Initiative
Vice Chancellor Prof. Upendra Prasad Singh of Patliputra University appreciated the initiative, stating that such efforts promote self-reliance among women while improving campus facilities.
He added that the initiative represents a strong example of combining education, service, and social empowerment.
Inspection and Appreciation of Facilities
After inaugurating the cafeteria, the minister inspected the kitchen facilities and praised the quality of arrangements. He also visited the Vice Chancellor’s office, where he was formally honored.
