Patna: A total of 8,420 Extremely Backward Class (EBC) candidates in Bihar have benefited from the Civil Services Incentive Scheme since its inception in 2018. The scheme, aimed at supporting EBC students in clearing preliminary exams for UPSC, BPSC, and other competitive examinations, has disbursed a total of Rs 43.20 crore over the past seven years.
This year alone, over 2,000 candidates received financial assistance, with approximately Rs 11.18 crore transferred directly to their bank accounts.
Incentive Benefits in 2025
Under the 2025 cycle of the scheme –
- 2,041 candidates who cleared the 70th BPSC examination received a total of Rs 10.20 crore, with each candidate receiving Rs 50,000.
- 38 UPSC Civil Services 2025 prelims qualifiers received Rs 1 lakh each, totaling Rs 38 lakh.
- 9 candidates who cleared the Indian Engineering Services (IES) examination received Rs 75,000 per candidate, amounting to Rs 6.75 lakh.
- 40 candidates who qualified in the CDS, CAPF, and NDA examinations received Rs 50,000 each, totaling Rs 20 lakh, to support further preparation.
- 110 candidates who cleared SSC CGL, RBI, and IBPS exams were awarded Rs 30,000 each, totaling Rs 33 lakh.
In addition, applications of 682 candidates who cleared the 71st BPSC exam have already been accepted, and incentives will be transferred following verification.
Incentive Amount and Purpose
The Civil Services Incentive Scheme provides financial assistance ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 lakh for EBC candidates. The amount is intended to support preparation for the main examinations and subsequent stages after clearing prelims.
The scheme aims to encourage students from economically weaker sections to pursue government services and reduce financial barriers in competitive examinations.
