Patna: The journey from Patna to Dobhi is set to become greener and more scenic as the state government plans to develop the 127-kilometre national highway as a green corridor. The initiative is being led by the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change with support from local Panchayat heads and district council members.
In the first phase, over 50,000 trees, including a large number of fruit-bearing varieties, will be planted on both sides of the highway.
Community Farming and Local Participation
The plantation drive will involve community participation, with farmers planting trees under guidance from local representatives, including Panchayat members, Mukhiya, and district council members. This approach is part of a community farming concept, aimed at combining environmental conservation with rural development.
The programme will be implemented as part of a community development initiative, where every 5 kilometres will feature a single variety of fruit tree to create a visually appealing and uniform green stretch. Planned trees include mango, guava, jamun, litchi, jackfruit, amla, bel, lemon, drumstick (sehjan), neem, banyan, pipal, and pakad.

Benefits for Farmers and Local Economy
The green corridor initiative is expected to provide direct economic benefits to farmers. Fruits harvested from roadside trees can be transported to markets easily, reducing logistics costs. The programme also aims to generate employment opportunities and boost beekeeping, especially from high-quality honey produced on drumstick (sehjan) trees, offering an additional source of income.
Dada Ka Dalan and Tourist Facilities
Along the Gaya–Dobhi route, the government plans to open “Dada Ka Dalan”, a rest area for travellers, which will provide employment to local people. Visitors can enjoy tea, coffee, and local cuisine, making stops more attractive.
Additionally, selfie points with parking facilities will be developed at multiple locations along the highway to enhance the travel experience for commuters and tourists.
Government Vision for Environment and Community Development
Dr. Pramod Kumar, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, said that humans and all living beings are part of nature, which is composed of the five elements. Protecting nature is key to safeguarding life.
The Gaya-Dobhi pilot project reflects the government’s commitment to environmental conservation while simultaneously promoting community development and rural economic growth.
