Patna: The Bihar government has announced special initiatives for the inclusive development of the Tharu community, with a dedicated allocation of ₹30 crore to implement various welfare and developmental projects. The announcement was made by SC–ST Welfare Minister Lakendra Kumar Raushan, who reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the upliftment of marginalized and tribal communities.
₹30 Crore Allocation for Tharu Community Development
The minister said the government is working continuously for the socio-economic empowerment of the Tharu community and other vulnerable groups. A special list has been prepared covering nearly 22 lakh beneficiaries, including members of the Tharu community. In West Champaran, several public welfare schemes, such as the Tharuhat Development Authority, are being implemented to accelerate development in tribal-dominated areas. He added that assistance from the Central Government would be sought if further expansion of these initiatives is required.

National Tribal Seminar Held in Patna
Under the aegis of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Welfare Department, the Bihar Scheduled Tribe Research and Training Institute organized a National Tribal Seminar at the Taramandal Auditorium in Patna. The seminar aimed to enhance the pace of development initiatives and increase tribal participation in government programs.
Emphasis on Participation in Governance and Administration
While inaugurating the seminar, Department Director IAS Priyanka Rani stressed the need to increase the participation of tribal communities in administrative services, governance, and politics. She also announced that a new building for the Scheduled Tribe Research and Training Institute is being constructed at Mithapur, with construction scheduled to begin in January.
Experts Highlight Need for Inclusion
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shailendra emphasized the importance of understanding tribal communities and ensuring their meaningful participation in society. He stated that empowering tribal groups and integrating them into the mainstream remains a key priority. Several experts and researchers shared their insights on tribal development during the seminar.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mission Director Gautam Paswan. Senior officials present included Special Duty Officer Diwan Zafar Hussain, Deputy Secretary Jyoti Jha, Director Priyanka Rani, Bihar Mahadalit Development Mission Director Gautam Paswan, Anthropological Survey of India Director Prof. B.V. Sharma, along with other officials and researchers.
