New Delhi: In a landmark step towards cow conservation, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has unveiled a comprehensive plan to modernize the city’s gaushalas (cow shelters) and promote sustainable energy initiatives. The move aims to boost cultural awareness, green energy adoption, and urban cleanliness.

CM Rekha Gupta Distributes Lease Extension Certificates to Gaushalas

On Monday, at a grand event held at Chief Minister Jan Seva Sadan, CM Rekha Gupta presented lease extension certificates to various gaushalas across Delhi. This measure ensures long-term stability for the shelters, enabling them to continue providing care for stray and abandoned cows.

In addition, she announced financial support for the installation of biogas infrastructure in these shelters, aiming to make them self-reliant and eco-friendly.

First Phase: 10 Model Gaushalas to Lead the Way

The first phase of the initiative will focus on developing 10 major gaushalas as modern, model shelters. These facilities will offer:

  • Advanced care and feeding arrangements for cows
  • Health monitoring and breeding improvement programs
  • Self-sufficiency through biogas and organic fertilizer production

CM Gupta emphasized that these gaushalas will serve as a benchmark for other shelters in the city.

Cultural Awareness Meets Green Energy

Highlighting the initiative’s broader vision, CM Gupta said, “Cow service is not just a responsibility, but a reflection of our cultural consciousness and compassion. We are transforming gaushalas into centers of energy and cleanliness.”

Key benefits include:

  • Waste-to-Energy: Biogas plants will convert cow dung into clean fuel, reducing waste and promoting renewable energy.
  • Urban Cleanliness: Proper cow dung management will help tackle stray cattle issues on city streets and improve overall sanitation.

Expanding the Network: 40 Gaushalas to Benefit

The Delhi government aims to extend these modern facilities to 40 gaushalas across the city. These integrated centers will provide:

  • Cow care services
  • Biogas energy generation
  • Organic fertilizer production
  • Financial sustainability for the institutions

This initiative is set to transform Delhi’s cow shelters into self-sufficient, environmentally friendly, and culturally significant institutions.
