In a significant move aimed at empowering the youth of Bihar, Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced the expansion of the Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana to include unemployed graduates. The scheme, which was previously restricted to unemployed youths with intermediate qualifications, will now provide Rs. 1,000 per month to graduates for a period of two years.

This initiative is part of the state government’s broader seven resolves programme aimed at addressing youth unemployment and enhancing their skill sets. The Chief Minister made the announcement via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the scheme will benefit graduates who are not pursuing further studies, have no self-employment, and have been unsuccessful in securing either government or private jobs.

Key Features of the Scheme

  • Eligibility: Unemployed youth aged 20-25 with a graduate degree in Arts, Science, or Commerce.
  • Financial Assistance: Rs. 1,000 per month for a maximum of two years.
  • Target Group: Graduates who are neither pursuing higher studies nor engaged in any form of self-employment.
  • Objective: To provide financial support to youth while encouraging them to pursue skill development and preparation for competitive exams.

In his post, CM Kumar emphasized the importance of this initiative in providing much-needed financial support to graduates. “I hope that the youth will use this allowance to obtain necessary training and prepare for competitive examinations so that their future can be secured,” he wrote.

A Vision for Empowering Bihar’s Youth

The expansion of this scheme is seen as part of Bihar’s ongoing efforts to improve employment opportunities for its youth. Chief Minister Kumar reiterated that the state’s top priority since forming the government in November 2005 has been to provide employment and empower youth. This latest move is aimed at ensuring that Bihar’s educated youth are self-reliant, skilled, and equipped to contribute to the development of both the state and the nation.

A Step Towards Skill Development and Job Creation

The CM further outlined the state’s commitment to providing skill development training to unemployed youth. He mentioned that a target has been set to provide government jobs and employment to one crore youth over the next five years. With new job opportunities expected to arise in both government and private sectors, the focus on skill development is seen as essential to preparing the youth for a future in which they can compete for and secure gainful employment.

“The objective of this initiative is to ensure that the youth of Bihar get maximum employment opportunities and become skilled and employment-oriented. This will also contribute significantly to the state’s and nation’s development,” CM Nitish Kumar stated.

Long-Term Goals: Employment and Self-Reliance

This initiative, while offering immediate financial relief to unemployed graduates, also aligns with Bihar’s long-term vision of fostering a self-reliant, skilled workforce. By encouraging youth to enhance their skills and pursue higher education or competitive exams, the scheme hopes to provide the tools necessary for the youth to secure stable and rewarding jobs.

The expansion of the Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana marks a significant step towards enhancing the socio-economic landscape of Bihar. With a focus on providing financial relief and skill development to the educated youth, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s announcement is expected to help Bihar’s youth build a better future while contributing to the state’s growth and prosperity.
