Patna: The Bihar government is taking proactive steps to boost sugarcane cultivation and support farmers, officials said. K. Senthil Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Sugarcane Industry Department, announced that farmers cultivating up to five acres will receive a 50% subsidy on sugarcane seeds, aimed at reducing production costs and providing direct financial benefits.
Registration of All Sugarcane Farmers Within 15 Days
During a high-level review meeting at the departmental auditorium on Friday, the ACS directed that all sugarcane farmers in the state must be registered within 15 days. This initiative ensures that farmers can avail government schemes and timely payments for their produce.

Expansion of Sugar Mills Across Bihar
The government is actively working to increase the number of sugar mills in the state to meet rising demand and prevent shortages of raw sugarcane. Officials highlighted plans to establish 25 new sugar mills, which will support increased cultivation and strengthen the local sugar industry.
Promotion of Sugarcane Cultivation and Farmers’ Welfare
The meeting emphasized developing areas suitable for sugarcane farming and raising awareness among farmers about the benefits of sugarcane cultivation. ACS Kumar also stressed that pending payments to farmers must be cleared within 15 days, with no tolerance for delays.
Officials reviewed various initiatives, including the Chief Minister Sugarcane Development Scheme, mechanization schemes, jaggery promotion plans, and issues related to existing sugar mills. Farmers showing exceptional performance under certified seed programs will also be honoured with appreciation certificates.

The meeting was attended by Joint Commissioner of Sugarcane, JPN Singh, all general managers of sugar mills, deputy directors, assistant directors, and other senior departmental officers.
