Patna: The Bihar government has launched the construction of 909 bridges across the state under the Chief Minister Gramin Setu Scheme, aimed at enhancing rural connectivity and ensuring seamless access to education, markets, and government services. The initiative is set to transform the lives of villagers by linking remote areas to main roads and economic centers.
670 Bridges Already Allocated, 239 in Tender Stage
According to the Rural Works Department, work orders have been issued for 670 bridges, and construction has already begun. The remaining 239 bridges are in the final stages of the tendering process.
The scheme focuses on:
- Replacing dilapidated bridges with new structures
- Building access roads for previously constructed bridges
- Constructing bridges damaged by floods
- Connecting villages and habitations that previously lacked proper connectivity
Strong Technical Oversight for Quality Execution
To ensure high-quality implementation, the Rural Works Department has formed a dedicated technical team comprising:
- 3 departmental technical consultants
- 1 bridge advisor
- 10 assistant engineers
The team reviews Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) according to a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent discrepancies and maintain construction standards. As per the SOP, 20 DPRs are reviewed daily, with a target to complete all reviews by February 10, 2026. Corrections and improvements are scheduled for February 17, and any major modifications are planned to be completed by February 25.

District-Wise Distribution of Bridges
The Chief Minister Gramin Setu Scheme prioritizes districts based on connectivity needs:
- East Champaran: 76 bridges
- Darbhanga: 53 bridges
- Sitamarhi: 43 bridges
- Madhubani: 42 bridges
- Sheikhpura: 39 bridges
- Gaya: 38 bridges
- Bhagalpur, Nalanda, Vaishali: 34 bridges each
- Saran, Gopalganj: 31 bridges each
- Siwan: 30 bridges
- Samastipur: 29 bridges
- Rohtas: 27 bridges
- Purnia: 24 bridges
- Supaul, Begusarai: 23 bridges each
- Patna: 18 bridges
