Patna: In a significant administrative move aimed at enhancing law and order, the Bihar government has appointed 32 senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers as nodal officers for districts across the state.
The decision is part of a broader strategy to improve accountability, strengthen policing standards, and ensure closer monitoring of district-level law enforcement.
Senior Officers Assigned Across Districts
The list includes officers of the rank of Additional Director General (ADG), Inspector General (IG), and Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
Out of the total:
- 24 officers have been assigned charge of one district each
- 8 officers will oversee two districts each

- Nayyar Hasnain Khan (ADG) – Patna
- Sanjay Kumar (IG) – Muzaffarpur
- S Ravindran (ADG) – Gaya
- Premlata S (IG) – Bhagalpur and Naugachhia

Focus on 18 Key Policing Parameters
Under the nodal officer system, each officer will review around 18 critical parameters in their assigned districts.
These include:
- Law and order situation
- Status of pending cases
- Quality of investigations
- Speedy trial progress
- Functioning of police stations
The initiative is designed to ensure comprehensive monitoring and accountability at the grassroots level.
Monitoring Public Grievances and Police Interaction
In addition to operational policing, nodal officers will also focus on public grievance redressal mechanisms.
They will:
- Monitor public hearings
- Review police-public interactions
- Ensure responsiveness of local police units
Each officer is required to conduct regular district visits and prepare detailed monthly reports.
Reports to Be Submitted Directly to DGP
Officials said that nodal officers will submit their inspection reports directly to the Director General of Police (DGP), including personal observations and recommendations.
This direct reporting mechanism is expected to streamline decision-making and improve responsiveness in policing.
Aim: Greater Accountability and Effective Law Enforcement
According to officials, the move is aimed at:
- Enhancing accountability of district police units
- Improving overall policing standards
- Ensuring better control over law and order
Sources indicated that the nodal officer system will involve regular field visits, performance reviews, and structured reporting to ensure effective implementation.
