Patna: The Bihar Government is strengthening rural economies and making life easier for villagers by expanding the role of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) in providing a wide range of services. Under this initiative, PACS now offer 300 types of services through Common Service Centers (CSCs), enabling residents to access essential facilities without traveling to distant towns.
According to the state’s Cooperative Department, the PACS have already generated over ₹5 crore in business through these services. Villagers can now sell their produce, procure high-quality seeds and fertilizers, and access government schemes directly through PACS. Digital services such as Aadhaar, PAN registration, and certificates are also available locally, saving time and effort for rural residents.
Expansion of Common Service Centers
The department has established Common Service Centers in approximately 6,292 PACS across the state. Out of these, 5,262 PACS have already begun offering services, effectively empowering rural communities and strengthening local economies. The initiative ensures that basic financial, agricultural, and administrative services are easily accessible at the village level.
Affordable Medicines Through Jan Aushadhi Centers
In a further step to enhance healthcare accessibility, 420 selected PACS have been approved for Jan Aushadhi Centers, which provide affordable and quality medicines. Of these, 302 PACS have received approval, 30 have obtained drug licenses, 26 PACS have store codes, and 22 PACS have already started operating Jan Aushadhi Centers. This move will not only save villagers’ time and expenses but also provide PACS with new sources of revenue.
Strengthening Rural Economy
The Bihar Government’s PACS initiative represents a strategic effort to empower rural communities, provide convenient access to essential services, and promote self-sufficiency. By leveraging technology and local infrastructure, the initiative is creating employment opportunities, supporting agricultural activities, and improving overall quality of life in villages across Bihar.
