Patna: Products manufactured by inmates lodged in Bihar’s prisons will now be available for public purchase at Gandhi Maidan’s Khadi Mall and the Bihar Museum, marking a significant step toward rehabilitation and social reintegration of prisoners. The initiative was jointly inaugurated by Home Secretary and Director General of Prisons Pranav Kumar and former Chief Secretary and Director General of Bihar Museum Anjani Kumar Singh.
Supporting the Marginalised Through Prison Reforms
Speaking at the launch of the ‘Mukti’ brand at Khadi Mall, Home Secretary Pranav Kumar said the initiative aims to support individuals at the lowest rung of society by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for prisoners. He said the products displayed are entirely manufactured by inmates inside prisons and are of high quality and purity.
He added that the revenue generated from the sale of these products is distributed among prison staff, the hardworking inmates, and partially to the families of victims, making it a socially responsible and inclusive model. Expressing optimism, he said that both production and sales are expected to increase significantly in the coming days. He also congratulated the officials and staff involved in executing the initiative.

Bihar Museum to Help Take Products to Every Home
Former Chief Secretary and Director General of Bihar Museum Anjani Kumar Singh praised the craftsmanship of the prison-made handicrafts and food products. He said the quality of the items now available at the Bihar Museum shop is impressive and expressed confidence that these products will reach households across the state through the museum’s retail platform.
He noted that Bihar Museum’s shop records annual sales of around ₹2 crore, and inclusion of prison-made products would help expand their reach while creating a steady market for items produced by inmates.

Officials Present at the Launch
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several senior officials, including Additional Secretary (Home) and Director Administration Sanjeev Jamuar, DIG and Director Workshop Jawahar Lal Prabhakar, Joint Secretary Vinod Kumar Das, AIG Headquarters Rajeev Kumar Singh, Additional Director General and Beur Jail Superintendent Neeraj Kumar Jha, DPRO Aman Kumar, and other officers and staff members.
A Step Towards Rehabilitation and Social Inclusion
The initiative reflects the Bihar government’s continued efforts toward prison reforms, skill development, and rehabilitation, enabling inmates to contribute productively to society while serving their sentences. By creating a direct market for prison-made goods, the programme aims to restore dignity, promote self-reliance, and support the long-term reintegration of inmates into mainstream society.
