Patna: The Bihar government has approved promotions for 50 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers serving across various districts and departments of the state. The promotions encompass senior leadership roles, including 17 District Magistrates (DMs), reflecting a significant reshuffle aimed at strengthening administrative efficiency and governance across the state.
Top-Level Promotions for Central Deputation Officers
Among the officers promoted, key IAS officials serving on central deputation have received notable elevations. Vipin Kumar, 1996 batch IAS officer and current Chairman of the Airports Authority of India, and Rahul Singh, 1996 batch IAS and Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), have both been granted Proforma promotions to the top pay scale. This recognition reflects their significant contributions in central leadership roles and ensures parity with senior administrative standards.
Senior Administrative Grade Elevations
Shri Sreedhar Cheribolu, a 2001 batch IAS officer currently posted in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), has been promoted to the Principal Secretary level under the Higher Administrative Grade (HAG). Other senior officials, including Rajesh Kumar, Commissioner of the Kosi Division, and Mayank Varwade, Director of the Bihar Education Project, have also received promotions under the HAG, reflecting their growing responsibilities in state governance and development initiatives.
Special Secretary Promotions for Mid-Cadre Officers
The government has additionally promoted 27 IAS officers from the 2013 batch of the Bihar cadre to the Special Secretary level. This group includes nine DMs serving across different districts, reinforcing leadership and administrative oversight at the district level. Notable among them is Yogendra Singh, private secretary to Union Minister Giriraj Singh, who has been elevated to the Selection Grade Special Secretary.
Deputy Secretary to Additional Secretary-Level Promotions
Seventeen officers from the 2016 batch have been promoted to the rank of Additional Secretary. This cadre includes eight serving DMs, ensuring strengthened governance and policy implementation at both district and state levels. The move underscores the Bihar government’s emphasis on merit-based progression, rewarding officers demonstrating administrative excellence and leadership capabilities.
