Patna: The Bihar Rural Works Department is prioritizing road safety alongside the construction of roads and bridges in rural areas. The department is implementing modern safety standards to ensure that travel on newly constructed roads is completely secure for all commuters.
Road Safety Becomes a Top Priority in Villages
Following the Supreme Court and Ministry of Road Transport guidelines, the Rural Works Department has introduced a comprehensive initiative to enhance road safety across the state. All newly constructed and under-construction rural roads and bridges are now required to meet strict safety standards, ensuring the well-being of residents traveling through villages.
Crash Barriers, Speed Signs, and Other Safety Measures
To curb rising accidents and improve traffic management, the department has installed crucial safety infrastructure on rural roads. These include:
- Crash barriers
- Stop signs
- Zebra crossings
- Speed breakers
- Speed limit signs
- Junction ahead signs
These measures not only control speeding vehicles but also guide drivers effectively during nighttime or dense fog, reducing the risk of accidents.
Protecting Pedestrians, Especially Children and Elderly
School zones, primary health centers, local markets, and major village intersections are often high-risk areas for pedestrians. To address this, the department has identified 36,495 sensitive locations where pedestrian movement is significant. Of these, more than 26,000 locations now feature zebra crossings, making it safer for schoolchildren, elderly residents, and villagers to cross roads.
From village markets to educational institutions, these safety markers are becoming the foundation of road safety in rural Bihar.
Ensuring Safe and Smooth Travel Across Rural Bihar
The Rural Works Department’s focus goes beyond connectivity, aiming to make every rural road in Bihar fully secure. The ultimate goal is to ensure that residents can travel without fear, making rural journeys not only convenient but completely safe for all citizens.
