Patna: The Bihar government is set to take a major step towards self-reliance by initiating stone mining operations at 30 locations across the state. The move aims to reduce dependence on other states for construction materials, lower project costs, and accelerate infrastructure development.
Big Push for Local Stone Supply
The state government plans to begin stone mining in multiple districts, although the exact locations are yet to be officially announced. This initiative is expected to ensure a steady supply of raw materials for key infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and public buildings.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha stated that the mining department is working actively on this plan and that a final decision on locations will be taken soon.
Reducing Costs and Speeding Up Development
One of the primary objectives of this initiative is to reduce construction costs by making stone available locally. Currently, Bihar relies heavily on other states for supply, which increases transportation costs and delays projects.
With local mining:
- Construction expenses are expected to decline
- Infrastructure projects will be completed faster
- Development activities across the state will gain momentum
The government believes this will give a significant boost to Bihar’s overall growth and infrastructure expansion.
Employment Opportunities and Economic Growth
The mining initiative is also expected to generate new employment opportunities in rural and semi-urban areas. From mining operations to transportation and related industries, the project could create multiple job avenues.
Additionally, better utilization of local resources will strengthen the state’s economy and improve revenue generation.
Increased Revenue from Sand Mining
During a recent press conference, officials highlighted progress in the auction and operation of sand ghats (बालूघाट). Several new sand mining sites have been successfully auctioned in the current financial year, leading to a notable increase in state revenue.
This reflects the government’s focus on improving mining sector efficiency and transparency.
Focus on Environmental Sustainability
The Bihar government has emphasized maintaining environmental balance while expanding mining activities. Authorities are adopting transparent and regulated processes to ensure sustainable operations.
In the past two months alone, over 50 environmental clearances have been issued, indicating faster coordination between departments while adhering to environmental norms.
Improved Coal Supply for Industries
The state has also streamlined coal supply for small and micro industries through the Bihar State Mining Corporation Limited. Coal is being provided at fixed rates to brick kilns and other units, which is expected to promote cleaner and more efficient technologies.
Step Towards an Atmanirbhar Bihar
This initiative is being seen as a major step toward building an “Atmanirbhar Bihar” (self-reliant Bihar). By strengthening local resource utilization, the government aims to:
- Reduce dependence on other states
- Improve economic stability
- Curb illegal mining activities
- Accelerate infrastructure growth
Overall, the plan signals a strong push toward sustainable development and efficient resource management in the state.
