Patna: The Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has announced a series of significant measures to benefit state government teachers. The decisions cover teacher promotions, transfer policy reforms, and timely salary disbursement, bringing relief to over 5.85 lakh teachers and principals across the state.
Teacher Promotions to Begin from April 2026
The Education Minister informed the state assembly that the long-awaited teacher promotions for the financial year 2025-26 will begin after the fiscal year ends. The promotion process will be conducted in a transparent and fair manner, considering factors such as service duration, qualifications, and departmental rules.
The first phase will cover primary and middle-level teachers, followed by other categories. The education department has finalized the rules for promotion, ensuring clarity and uniformity in the process.

New Transfer Policy to Ease Teacher Mobility
Alongside promotions, the Bihar government is preparing a new transfer policy for teachers. Timely Salary Disbursement for Teachers
In a move to support financial stability, the Bihar government announced that February salaries for state employees and teachers will be released before Holi 2026. This decision will benefit approximately 7.5 lakh employees, including over 5.85 lakh teachers and headmasters.
The 2026-27 budget has also allocated more than ₹68,000 crore to the education sector. The funds will be used to strengthen school infrastructure, enhance teacher facilities, and improve overall educational quality in Bihar.
