In a bizarre turn of events in Kolkata’s Entally area on Wednesday evening, a man impersonating an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was arrested after demanding access to a “VVIP toilet.” The unusual request drew public attention and ultimately led to his detention and arrest by the Entally police.

Sounak Chakraborty Arrested for Impersonation and Misuse of Beacon
The accused, identified as Mr. Sounak Chakraborty, was travelling with his wife, mother, and three security guards in a vehicle illegally fitted with a beacon—typically reserved for high-ranking government officials. His behavior and the presence of the guards raised suspicions among local residents.
According to officers from Entally police station, Mr. Chakraborty initially claimed to be with the Delhi Police. However, when questioned further, he gave multiple contradictory statements—first claiming to be a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and later stating that he worked with the Income Tax Department and was on deputation in West Bengal.
Locals Alert Police Following Suspicious Behavior
The incident occurred near Bidhan Bhavan, the state Congress headquarters. Mr. Chakraborty’s request for a VVIP toilet, combined with his convoy-like travel, created suspicion among locals who began questioning his credentials. Realizing inconsistencies in his responses, they promptly informed law enforcement.
Police officers from Entally station responded quickly, detaining Mr. Chakraborty and conducting a preliminary investigation, which confirmed the impersonation. He was formally arrested shortly thereafter.
Driver and Security Guards Also Arrested
Along with Mr. Chakraborty, the three guards and the driver who accompanied him were also arrested for their alleged complicity in the offense. Authorities are now probing whether this impersonation had been used in other fraudulent activities.
