New Delhi: The All-India Indian Revenue Service (IRS) Association, Income Tax Cadre, has announced the election of its new office bearers, marking a significant development for the representative body of Group ‘A’ Income Tax officers.
Newly Elected Office Bearers Announced
As per the announcement, the newly elected leadership of the IRS Association (Income Tax Cadre) is as follows:
- Banita Devi Naorem (IRS IT: 1998) – President
- Deepshikha Sharma (IRS IT: 2000) – General Secretary
- Ankur Jain (IRS IT: 2020) – Joint General Secretary
The new team will lead the association in its role as a professional and representative body for Income Tax officers across the country.

Courtesy Call on CBDT Leadership
Following their election, the newly appointed office bearers called on senior officials of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). They met:
- Ravi Agrawal (IRS IT: 1988), Chairman, CBDT
- Sanjay Bahadur (IRS IT: 1989), Member (Income Tax), CBDT
- Mona Singh (IRS IT: 1990), Member (Administration & Judicial), CBDT
On the occasion, the office bearers presented a copy of Kautilya’s ‘The Arthashastra’, symbolising the values of governance, administration, and ethical public service.
Role and Significance of the IRS Association
The IRS Association, Income Tax Cadre, functions as the apex representative body of Group ‘A’ officers of the Income Tax Department. It plays a crucial role as a professional platform for:
- Officer welfare
- Career development
- Policy-level feedback to the government
The association actively engages with the CBDT on a wide range of administrative and service-related matters.
Welfare, Professional Support, and Camaraderie
The association provides structured support to its members on service-related issues, including welfare concerns. It also fosters communication and mentorship between senior and junior officers, helping maintain institutional continuity and professional growth.
Beyond formal representation, the association promotes camaraderie through professional and social events, offers financial assistance in times of need, and acts as a collective voice for officers across postings.
Interface with Government on Tax Administration
The IRS Association regularly interacts with the government to strengthen tax administration and improve working conditions within the Income Tax Department. It advocates for policies that enhance administrative efficiency while safeguarding the interests and safety of officers.
On certain occasions, the association has also taken principled stands on issues concerning the service, including matters related to officer safety and systemic challenges.
