New Delhi: In a significant development for the Indian Revenue Service, eight senior IRS (Income Tax) officers of the 1990 batch have been promoted to the rank of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr. CCIT) for the panel year 2026. The promotions have been sanctioned by the Central Government on an in-situ basis, reflecting the officers’ distinguished service and seniority.

Details of the Promotion

According to an office order issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on December 31, 2025, the promoted officers have been elevated to the Pr. CCIT rank at Level 17 of the Pay Matrix. The promotions are effective from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later, and will remain valid until further orders.

Officers Who Have Been Promoted

The officers elevated to the Principal Chief Commissioner rank include:

  • Asit Singh
  • Sunil Bajpai
  • Alok Kumar
  • Aparna Mittal Agarwal
  • Narender Kumar
  • Dirisam Sudhakara Rao
  • Priscilla Singsit
  • N. Longvah

These officers, with decades of experience in the Indian Revenue Service, have played pivotal roles in tax administration, policy implementation, and revenue collection across the country.

Continuity in Current Posts

The CBDT order also clarifies that upon promotion, the officers will continue to hold their existing posts until formal posting orders are issued. This ensures administrative continuity and allows the newly promoted principal chief commissioners to transition smoothly into their enhanced responsibilities.

Significance of the Promotion

Promotion to the Pr. CCIT rank is a recognition of the officers’ long-standing contributions to the Income Tax Department, their expertise in handling complex tax matters, and their leadership in managing regional and divisional tax operations. Officers at this rank are responsible for overseeing major tax administration units, guiding policy implementation, and mentoring junior officers in the IRS.

These promotions also reflect the government’s commitment to rewarding seniority, merit, and proven track records in one of the most crucial wings of revenue administration in India.
