He was just six months old when he lost his father. By the time he reached Class 3, his mother was also gone. Growing up without his parents, Vishwas Jhargad had to face losses that no child should have to experience. Yet, his education continued, supported by family members who stood by him and encouraged him to pursue his ambitions.
Years later, when Vishwas arrived at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in New Delhi for his interview, he carried something deeply personal: a photograph of his late mother.
That day marked an important milestone in his life. Vishwas, from Changatpuri village in Maharashtra’s Paithan district, secured All India Rank (AIR) 145 in the UPSC Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination 2025. His selection as an Assistant Commandant in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) brought him closer to a dream he had worked towards since beginning his preparation in 2023.
But for Vishwas, the achievement meant much more than clearing a competitive examination. It was also a moment to remember the people who had helped him reach this stage, especially the mother whose photograph accompanied him on his interview day.
Losing His Parents at a Young Age
Vishwas’s journey began in Changatpuri village in Maharashtra. His childhood took a difficult turn when he lost his father at just six months of age. His mother passed away when he was studying in Class 3.
Losing both parents so early could have disrupted his education and future plans. However, Vishwas continued his studies with the support of his extended family, who helped him move forward despite the circumstances.
His grandfather, the late Professor K. P. Jhargad, played an important role in his life. His uncle and aunt, maternal uncle Venkatesh Rupnar, and two elder sisters, Dr. Vishakha and Vrishada, also supported his education and ambitions.
Their encouragement gave Vishwas the opportunity to continue studying and work towards a future of his own. As he progressed through his education, the goal of becoming an officer remained within reach.
Beginning His UPSC CAPF Preparation in 2023
Preparing for a UPSC examination requires a structured study routine, sustained effort and the ability to manage a demanding syllabus. For Vishwas, the journey towards becoming an Assistant Commandant took a more definite shape in 2023, when he began preparing for the UPSC examination at Vidya Prabodhini in Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
The Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) examination offers candidates an opportunity to join India’s central armed police forces as officers. The selection process tests candidates across multiple stages, making preparation essential for those aspiring to secure a position.
Vishwas worked consistently towards his goal, focusing on his studies and following his preparation routine. His efforts eventually paid off when he secured AIR 145 in the CAPF (AC) Examination 2025.
The result marked a major achievement for Vishwas, who had continued pursuing his ambitions despite losing both parents during childhood.
Why He Carried His Mother’s Photograph to the UPSC Interview
For many candidates, the UPSC interview is the culmination of months or even years of preparation. It is a day they celebrate with family members, friends and mentors who have supported them along the way.
For Vishwas, the occasion carried a different kind of emotion.
When he arrived at the UPSC office in New Delhi for his interview, he held a photograph of his late mother. While other candidates posed for pictures outside the venue, Vishwas stood with the photograph of the woman he had lost years earlier.
The image later went viral on social media, touching people across the country. It offered a glimpse into the personal meaning behind his achievement and the memories he carried into one of the most significant moments of his life.
Although his mother was no longer there to witness his success, he chose to mark the occasion with her photograph. It was a personal way of including her in a moment he had worked hard to reach.
‘My Family’s Hard Work and Love Have Turned into Gold’
Vishwas has acknowledged the contribution of his family in helping him reach this stage.
Reflecting on his achievement, he said, “The hard work and love that my family has given me have turned into gold today,” he shared with Indian Masterminds.
His words recognise the people who supported him through his education and preparation. His grandfather, relatives and elder sisters remained important figures in his journey, helping him continue towards his goals after losing his parents.
