1985-batch IAS officer, K Shanmugam has got a three month extension for the second time as his retirement was scheduled on October 31. On Wednesday 14, the centre approved his extension of services in the view of Covid pandemic.
Earlier, Mr. Shanmugam was to retire on July 31 after which he got a three-month extension and now his retirement has been extended to January 31, 2020.
After the first extension, on 13 August, the Tamil Nadu government wrote to the centre asking for the extension of services of Mr Shanmugam.
Due to the ongoing Covid situation, the process of selection of the next Chief Secretary is likely to start in a couple of months.
