New Delhi: In the latest round of administrative decisions, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has approved a tenure extension for a senior financial official in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and cleared a new central deputation appointment in the Ministry of Heavy Industries. The appointments were notified through official orders issued on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
Nabarun Dhar Gets Second Extension as Internal Financial Advisor in CBI
Nabarun Dhar (IDAS:2004) will continue to serve as Internal Financial Advisor (IFA) at the Director level in the CBI for another year. His central deputation tenure, which was initially due to end on May 19, 2025, has been extended up to May 19, 2026, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.
The extension was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) following a proposal submitted by the concerned ministry. This marks the second consecutive extension of Mr. Dhar’s tenure. Originally appointed on May 20, 2019, for a five-year term, his first extension was granted in May 2024.
With this latest order, Mr. Dhar will complete seven years in his current role – an extended tenure indicative of the continuity and trust in his financial oversight within India’s premier investigative agency.
Ankit Kumar Appointed Deputy Secretary in Ministry of Heavy Industries
In another key appointment, 2015 batch Indian Supply Service (ISupplyS- ISS) Ankit Kumar has been selected for central deputation as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries. His name was recommended by the Department of Commerce, and the proposal has received approval from the competent authority, according to the DoPT order issued on the same day.
Mr. Kumar will serve in this position for a four-year term from the date of assuming charge, or until further orders. This appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen administrative leadership in a ministry focused on India’s industrial and manufacturing growth, particularly in the era of Make in India and EV sector acceleration.
Strategic Continuity and Talent Deployment
The decision to extend Mr. Dhar’s tenure highlights the critical role of financial oversight in agencies like the CBI, where multi-crore investigations and procurement cycles demand deep institutional memory and experience.
Simultaneously, the appointment of Mr. Kumar reflects the government’s talent utilization strategy, leveraging officers from specialized services like the Indian Supply Service (ISupplyS) to drive efficiency in industrial ministries.
These administrative moves are part of routine governance yet underscore the strategic importance of continuity and fresh leadership in key areas of the central government’s functioning.
