New Delhi: India has taken another step towards building quantum-secure communication networks with the unveiling of 14 indigenous quantum products by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), the telecom R&D centre under the Department of Telecommunications.

The products, developed in the areas of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), are designed to protect communication networks against emerging cybersecurity threats posed by advances in quantum computing.

The Quantum Product Series was unveiled during C-DOT’s 43rd Foundation Day celebrations in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Telecom Secretary Amit Agrawal and C-DOT CEO Rajkumar Upadhyay, among other dignitaries.

14 Indigenous Products Cover Quantum-Safe Technologies

C-DOT’s new portfolio combines quantum communication technologies with quantum-resistant encryption solutions for different types of networks and users.

The products include:

  • Q-AKSHAY CD: Compact fibre-based QKD system using COW and DPS protocols.
  • Q-AKSHAY MD: Measurement Device Independent QKD system designed to enhance security against vulnerabilities associated with measurement devices.
  • C-SPD: Single-photon detector for quantum communication systems.
  • C-RD: Wideband RF driver for intensity and phase modulators used in quantum communication.
  • Q-SETU: Quantum-safe Layer 3 encryptor with throughput of up to 80 Mbps.
  • Q-MAHASETU: Commercial-grade Layer 2/3 encryptor supporting throughput of up to 40 Gbps.
  • Q-VIKRAM: Defence-grade Layer 2/3 encryptor with throughput of up to 1 Gbps.
  • Q-AMOGH: Optical encryptor offering throughput of up to 200 Gbps at Layer 1.
  • Q-DARSHAN: Quantum-safe IP video phone for protected voice and video communication.
  • Q-VACHAN: In-line quantum-safe node that can upgrade existing IP phones.
  • Q-RAQSHAK: Quantum-safe solution for enterprise networks and communication infrastructure.
  • Q-VAAYU: Quantum-safe wireless point-to-point network solution.
  • Q-VAJRA1000: Quantum-safe access node compatible with technologies such as GPON and wireless radios.
  • Q-PARAKRAM: Defence-grade quantum-safe encryptor with throughput of up to 1 Gbps.

From Telecom to Defence, Products Target Multiple Applications

The Quantum Product Series has been designed for a wide range of applications across India’s communication ecosystem.

Its potential applications span:

  • Enterprise
  • Telecom
  • Wireless
  • Optical Networks
  • Strategic Communications
  • Defence

The portfolio combines two important approaches to quantum security:

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) enables secure generation and distribution of encryption keys, while Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) uses cryptographic algorithms designed to withstand attacks from future quantum computers.

High-Speed Encryption for Critical Networks

Several of the newly unveiled products are designed to handle high-speed communication requirements.

Among them, Q-AMOGH supports up to 200 Gbps at the optical Layer 1 level, while Q-MAHASETU supports up to 40 Gbps for Layer 2/3 networks.

For strategic and defence requirements, C-DOT has developed products such as Q-VIKRAM and Q-PARAKRAM, each supporting throughput of up to 1 Gbps.

The products are intended to provide quantum-resistant protection for sensitive communications while supporting existing and next-generation network infrastructure.

Focus on Indigenous Research and Future-Ready Networks

The launch reflects C-DOT’s focus on converting indigenous telecom research and innovation into solutions that can be deployed across communication networks.

The products have been developed to address cybersecurity risks associated with the emergence of quantum computing and strengthen the resilience of India’s communication infrastructure.

A Quantum Product Series booklet was also launched during the event, bringing together details of C-DOT’s indigenous work in QKD and PQC.

Building India’s Quantum-Secure Communication Ecosystem

With quantum computing expected to pose new challenges to conventional cryptographic systems, C-DOT’s new portfolio is aimed at helping networks transition towards quantum-safe security.

The combination of QKD systems, PQC-based encryptors and specialised quantum communication components provides an indigenous technology base for developing secure communication solutions across existing and next-generation networks.

The initiative reinforces India’s push to develop secure, resilient and future-ready communication infrastructure while strengthening domestic capabilities in emerging quantum technologies.
