New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed seven new Executive Directors (EDs) to the Boards of major public sector banks (PSBs), following the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The Department of Financial Services (DFS) formally notified the appointments on Monday, three days after the proposal received cabinet clearance on November 21, 2025.

These appointments strengthen leadership teams across key public sector banks at a time when the sector is focusing on credit growth, digital transformation, and strengthening risk and compliance frameworks.
Result of Rigorous FSIB Selection Process
The appointments are based on the recommendations of the Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB), which conducted an extensive selection process earlier this year. The FSIB interviewed 80 senior banking professionals from multiple PSBs between July 19 and August 4, 2025.
On August 4, 2025, FSIB recommended 11 candidates for Executive Director roles across public sector banks. With the latest DFS notification, seven of these candidates have now been appointed and allocated positions.
Strengthening Governance Across Public Sector Banks
The new appointments come at a time when PSBs are pursuing operational consolidation, governance reforms, and technology-driven expansion. The addition of experienced leaders at the Executive Director level is expected to support ongoing organizational initiatives and reinforce management bandwidth across the banking ecosystem.
