New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday announced a fresh set of senior-level appointments and tenure extensions, with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approving the extension of central deputation for IFoS officer Amit Shukla, appointing IPoS officer Sachin Mittal as Joint Secretary in the Lokpal, and extending the tenure of Dr. N. Kalaiselvi as Director General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-cum-Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
The decisions were notified through separate orders issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Amit Shukla Gets One-Year Extension in Rural Development Ministry
The ACC approved the proposal of the Department of Rural Development for the extension of the central deputation tenure of Amit Shukla (IFoS: Tripura Cadre, 1999 batch).
Shukla, who is serving as Joint Secretary, Department of Rural Development, has been granted a one-year extension beyond June 1, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The extension ensures continuity in the department’s ongoing policy implementation and flagship rural development programmes.
Sachin Mittal Appointed Joint Secretary in Lokpal
In another important appointment, the ACC approved the appointment of Sachin Mittal (IPoS: 2000 batch) as Joint Secretary, Lokpal, under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
According to the notification, Mittal has been appointed from the date of assuming charge for a tenure of five years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment has been approved by waiving the mandatory cooling-off condition, enabling his immediate posting to the anti-corruption ombudsman.
Dr. N. Kalaiselvi Gets Extension as CSIR Director General
The ACC has also approved the extension of Dr. (Ms.) N. Kalaiselvi as Director General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-cum-Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR).
Her tenure has been extended beyond August 7, 2026, until February 28, 2027, the date of her superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Dr. Kalaiselvi has been heading CSIR, India’s premier scientific research organisation, while simultaneously serving as Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
Her extension is expected to provide continuity to several ongoing national scientific research, innovation and technology initiatives being undertaken by CSIR.
Series of Senior-Level Appointments
The latest ACC decisions are part of the Centre’s continuing exercise to strengthen leadership across key ministries, scientific institutions and constitutional bodies.
While Amit Shukla’s extension ensures administrative continuity in the Department of Rural Development, Sachin Mittal’s appointment fills a key position in the Lokpal. At the same time, Dr. N. Kalaiselvi’s extended tenure will provide stability to India’s scientific research ecosystem through the CSIR and DSIR.
