Champawat Saras Corbett Festival 2026 Launched: Adventure, Culture, and Local Economy Take Center Stage in Uttarakhand

Champawat: The seven-day Champawat Saras Corbett Festival–2026 was virtually inaugurated by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in the Tonkpur municipal area of Champawat district. The festival aims to celebrate the state’s rich cultural heritage, boost winter tourism, and promote adventure activities in the region. CM Dhami described the event as a symbol of Uttarakhand’s commitment to “self-reliant development” and cultural preservation.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the festival is a key step toward establishing Champawat as an adventure tourism hub while highlighting the district’s historical and wildlife legacy associated with the legendary hunter and naturalist Jim Corbett.

Adventure Tourism and Exciting Activities on Offer

Over the next seven days, the festival will host a wide range of adventure and tourism activities, including:

  • Paragliding
  • Mountain biking
  • River rafting
  • Hot air balloon rides
  • Trekking
  • Bird watching

These activities are designed to give the region a new identity in adventure tourism and attract visitors year-round. The festival also promotes winter tourism, marking the event as the state’s first winter edition of the Saras Corbett Festival.

  • Student competitions such as quizzes and art contests

These programs aim to provide a platform for local talent while attracting tourists to Champawat.

Boosting Local Economy Through ‘Local for Local’ Initiative

The ‘Local for Local’ campaign is a key feature of the festival. Self-help groups, women artisans, and local vendors will display handicrafts, traditional foods, and other products. This initiative not only promotes local entrepreneurship but also empowers women economically and strengthens the regional economy.

CM Dhami stated that the festival aligns with the state government’s vision of “Development and Heritage Together”, with ongoing projects such as road strengthening, ropeways, dry ports, and science centers further supporting growth and employment opportunities in Champawat.

Safety and Tourism Preparedness

Authorities have ensured comprehensive arrangements for security, traffic management, and tourist facilities during the festival. The event is expected to boost the local economy, attract investors, and establish Champawat as a key destination on India’s national tourism map.

With adventure tourism, cultural heritage, and local entrepreneurship all integrated, the Champawat Saras Corbett Festival–2026 is positioned as a landmark initiative for Uttarakhand’s tourism and cultural promotion.
