Raipur: In a remarkable act of bravery, Hemadri Chaudhary, a class 9 student from Mattia village in Arjunda, Balod district, Chhattisgarh, saved a young child from drowning on October 2, 2025. While playing near a village pond, a first-grade student accidentally fell into deep water and started to drown. Despite the urgency, a bystander refused to enter the water to help.
Without hesitation, Hemadri jumped into the pond, struggled, and successfully rescued the child, bringing relief to the villagers present. Her quick thinking and bravery instantly became the talk of the village.

Selected for State Bravery Award 2025
For her courageous act, Hemadri was previously honored at the school level on Children’s Day. Recognizing her selfless act, the Women and Child Development Department of Chhattisgarh has selected her for the prestigious State Bravery Award 2025.
Republic Day Honors and Rewards
According to the Directorate of Women and Child Development, five brave children will be honored at the state-level Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2026. Each awardee will receive:
- ₹25,000 cash prize
- Medal
- Certificate of honor

Pride for the District and School
Collector Divya Umesh Mishra expressed pride in Hemadri’s bravery, saying her prompt action, presence of mind, and dedication exemplify selfless courage. Teachers and villagers noted that her heroism will serve as an inspiration for future generations in Balod and across Chhattisgarh.
