Balaghat: In a significant development for Balaghat district, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced a comprehensive package of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects designed to boost the local economy and improve the quality of life for residents. The announcement comes just before the festive season of Diwali, bringing a much-needed wave of optimism and support for farmers, youth, and vulnerable communities in the region.

Generous Bonus for Paddy Farmers

One of the key highlights of the announcement was the disbursement of bonus payments amounting to ₹337.12 crore to approximately 6.69 lakh paddy-producing farmers across Balaghat. These payments, credited directly into farmers’ bank accounts, serve as a financial boost to celebrate Diwali. Earlier, the Chief Minister had promised a bonus of up to ₹10,000 per hectare for paddy procured at support prices, underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring farmers’ financial security and incentivizing agricultural production.

Major Infrastructure Projects Launched

Alongside financial support for agriculture, the government has initiated construction and development projects worth ₹245 crore aimed at modernizing infrastructure within the district. Notable among these are the elevation of a school building in Parsawada, costing approximately ₹31 crore, and the construction of a crucial Rail Over Bridge (ROB) in Balaghat, with a budget of around ₹39 crore. Overall, 78 different projects covering roads, public facilities, and utilities have commenced, signaling a broad push toward sustainable development and improved public services.

Boosting Employment and Empowering Youth

The welfare drive extends beyond infrastructure, with more than 4,000 young people in Balaghat receiving appointment letters (naukri-patra), marking a major step towards reducing unemployment. Particularly noteworthy is the appointment of 850 youths from Naxal-affected villages in special security assistant roles under the Home Department, which not only provides jobs but also strengthens security in these sensitive areas. Additionally, over 3,700 young people secured employment through private sector companies, including around 1,000 women placed in firms based in Bengaluru, highlighting the government’s focus on gender-inclusive growth.

Healthcare and Safety Measures

To improve healthcare access, a new community hospital is set to be constructed in Katangi, while Katangi High School will be upgraded to a Higher Secondary School, improving educational facilities in the region. Infrastructure improvements will also include a new bridge on the Katangi-Seoni highway, enhancing connectivity.

Recognizing the dangers posed by wildlife in rural areas, the government has announced compensation of ₹17 lakh each for families who lost members in wild animal attacks—families who have already received partial aid. Complementing this, solar fencing will be installed around farms bordering Pench National Park to prevent wildlife intrusion, safeguarding both human lives and agricultural land.

Additionally, plans are underway to interlink the Rajiv Sagar irrigation project with Nahlesra dam, promising better water management and irrigation for farmers.

Chief Minister’s Vision

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized that the wellbeing of farmers is the cornerstone of the state and the nation’s prosperity. He reiterated his government’s commitment to farmers, youth, and women, who form the backbone of his development agenda. Dr. Yadav assured that similar bonuses will soon be extended to wheat and soybean producers, further reinforcing agricultural support.

He also highlighted ongoing social welfare measures, including monthly allowances to women during festivals such as Bhai Dooj, with plans to enhance these benefits in the future.

A Forward-Looking Strategy

The announcements made in Balaghat reflect a holistic approach to regional development, encompassing financial aid to farmers, creation of employment opportunities, infrastructure modernization, and enhanced safety for rural communities. As Diwali approaches, these initiatives not only provide immediate financial relief and jobs but also build confidence in the government’s ability to deliver meaningful progress.

With these measures, Balaghat district is set on a promising path toward sustained growth and improved quality of life for all its residents.
