Indore: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Monday attended the Chhath Mahotsav organized by the Northeast Cultural Institute in Indore, where he performed the jalabhishek ritual and offered prayers as part of the Chhath Puja celebrations. Extending his greetings to the people of Madhya Pradesh, the Chief Minister said Chhath Puja symbolizes devotion to the Sun God, family well-being, and longevity.
Highlighting the historical and cultural significance, Dr. Yadav stated that the festival originated during the Treta Yuga, when devotees prayed for Lord Rama’s long life. He lauded the dedication of mothers and sisters, saying they willingly endure hardships with joy to pray for the happiness and prosperity of their families. “I salute these devoted women for observing this sacred fast with faith and cultural values,” he said.
Chhath Festival Promotes Faith, Social Unity, and Motherly Devotion
Addressing the gathering at Man Kamneshwar Mahadev Udyan, Dr. Yadav noted that Chhath is a unique blend of religious faith, cultural heritage, and social harmony. He emphasized that while the festival is particularly significant for the Bihar and Purvanchal communities, its observance has now spread nationwide with great devotion and enthusiasm. In Indore alone, over 200 Chhath Puja events are being held across the city.
Dr. Yadav said the festival reinforces the spiritual and societal strength of women, promoting collective participation, discipline, and cultural unity. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting and preserving religious and cultural traditions.

Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya praised the mothers and sisters for upholding India’s ancient traditions and performing fasts for the well-being of their families. He announced that to facilitate devotees, the state government plans to construct thousands of water ponds (kunds) across Madhya Pradesh.
Water Resources Minister S. Silawat added that following the Chief Minister’s previous visit, three large water ponds are under construction in Annapurna, Pipliyahana, and Chhota Bangarda areas of Indore, which will soon be completed to ease Chhath Puja rituals for devotees.
