Dehradun: The 10th Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament, organized by the Uttarakhand Secretariat Badminton Club, was inaugurated today at the Multipurpose Sports Hall, Parade Ground, Dehradun. The event saw enthusiastic participation from employees and officials representing 42 state departments, underlining the government’s emphasis on promoting sports, health, and wellness among its workforce.
CM Dhami Stresses Importance of Sports for Health and Discipline
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who inaugurated the tournament, highlighted the critical role of sports in fostering discipline, reducing stress, and maintaining physical and mental well-being. “Amidst the busy schedules of government work, it is essential that employees engage in sports activities. A healthy mind and body are the greatest assets of an individual, and sports provide an effective medium to achieve this,” the CM said.
CM Dhami also expressed his confidence that the inter-departmental badminton tournament would continue to grow in the future, spreading positive energy among the state’s officers and employees. During the inauguration, the Chief Minister actively participated in a badminton session, motivating players and boosting their morale.

Heera Singh Bhasera, President of the Secretariat Badminton Club, praised the government’s efforts in rapidly developing world-class sports infrastructure in Uttarakhand. “Players are receiving continuous encouragement and improved resources under CM Dhami’s leadership, helping the state gain recognition as an emerging sports powerhouse,” he said.
CM Dhami also highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting sports as part of broader development initiatives in Uttarakhand. He stated that, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Uttarakhand is setting an example for other states through innovative policies, public welfare programs, and historic initiatives.
Focus on Youth Development and National-Level Opportunities
The Chief Minister pointed out that Uttarakhand recently hosted national-level sports competitions for the first time, significantly enhancing the state’s sports infrastructure. He emphasized that the government is continuously working to develop Uttarakhand as a “land of sports,” providing young talents with opportunities to compete at national and international levels.
CM Dhami added that the government is focused on strengthening sports culture in the state through modern facilities, professional training, and incentives, ensuring youth achieve their full potential. The tournament also saw the presence of MLA Khajan Dass, who praised the state government’s initiatives in sports promotion.
