Bhopal: In a shining example of grassroots innovation and convergence in governance, the Hriday Abhiyan—a multi-departmental campaign from Madhya Pradesh‘s Harda district—has been hailed by the State NITI Aayog for its transformative impact on maternal-child health, nutrition, and education. Launched under the directive of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the initiative is now being seen as a replicable model for tribal and rural development across the state.
An Integrated Approach to Public Welfare
The Hriday Abhiyan was born out of the need to address overlapping challenges of malnutrition, maternal health, and educational dropouts—particularly in the tribal belts of Harda. By uniting the efforts of the Health, Women & Child Development, and School Education Departments, the campaign reached deep into the most underserved areas.
A total of 50 remote villages with poor health, nutrition, and educational indicators were identified. A coordinated door-to-door survey was conducted by interdepartmental teams, and comprehensive interventions followed.
Key Outcomes of Hriday Abhiyan:
- 739 pregnant women were identified and linked to government welfare schemes. Their Samagra IDs and bank accounts were generated, and many received care for high-risk conditions.
- 225 malnourished children were successfully brought into the healthy category, primarily through special dietary interventions like flavored munga (moringa) granules and milk powder administered twice daily.
- 562 school dropout children out of 1,752 identified were re-admitted into the school system.
- Health camps ensured vaccination and health screenings at the village level, especially in blocks like Timarni, Khirkiya, and Handia.
Special camps were also organized to resolve payment issues and increase enrollment under schemes such as Janani Suraksha Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, and Maternity Assistance Scheme. Nutrition counseling, distribution of iron and calcium tablets, and antenatal care were ramped up across identified locations.
From Vision to Results
The campaign not only reduced malnutrition and improved maternal health indicators but also enhanced school access among vulnerable groups. Its data-driven, locally tailored, and collaborative approach earned appreciation from the State NITI Aayog, setting a new standard for micro-level governance interventions.
Officials noted that Hriday Abhiyan stands as a testament to how convergence and grassroots innovation can address interrelated development challenges effectively.
