Meerut: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday held a video conference with district panchayat presidents and members across the state as part of the Viksit Uttar Pradesh @2047: The Century of Prosperity Mega Campaign. During the interaction, CM Yogi especially praised the efforts of the Meerut Zila Panchayat under the leadership of President Gaurav Chaudhary.
Highlighting the achievements of Meerut in increasing revenue, enhancing public amenities, and overall development, CM Yogi remarked,
“Bringing you [Gaurav] back from abroad has proven beneficial for Meerut.”
Meerut Sets Benchmark in Development and Revenue Growth
In the virtual interaction, CM Yogi reviewed the progress reports of various district panchayats and lauded Meerut for leading in both development works and revenue enhancement. He encouraged other district panchayats across Uttar Pradesh to take inspiration from Meerut’s model.
Gaurav Chaudhary, speaking on behalf of the district panchayat, shared key highlights of their initiatives, stating that they have not only focused on development and infrastructure but have also worked actively on improving public safety.
Revenue Collection Rises from ₹3 Crore to ₹10 Crore Annually
One of the most notable achievements presented was the significant rise in tax revenue collection—from ₹3 crore to ₹10 crore annually. This leap was attributed to the implementation of online tax systems, which have minimized tax evasion and brought transparency to the revenue process.
Other key efforts included:
- Construction of 128 new shops to boost commercial activity.
- Liberation of encroached government land, now being used for public functions under 3-year agreements.
- Installation of streetlights and CCTV cameras in rural areas, a first-of-its-kind initiative by any district panchayat in UP.
Public Confidence in Local Governance on the Rise
Gaurav Chaudhary emphasized that these development and security efforts have increased public trust in local governance.
“Meerut is likely the first district where the panchayat has taken such proactive steps in rural infrastructure, lighting, and security,” he said.
CM Highlights Leadership and Governance Excellence
CM Yogi’s appreciation of Gaurav Chaudhary was a recurring highlight of the conference. He commended the young leader’s decision to return from abroad and contribute to grassroots development, calling it a valuable asset to the district and the state.
