CMPDIL Strengthens Leadership: Rajiva Kumar Singh Appointed Executive Director (Exploration)

New Delhi: Coal India Limited (CIL) has strengthened its exploration leadership with Mr. Rajiva Kumar Singh assuming charge as Executive Director (Exploration). He officially joined the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), Ranchi on 1 January 2026, marking a new chapter in CIL’s efforts to enhance geological exploration and coal resource development across India.

Extensive Experience in Geological Exploration

Mr. Rajiva Kumar Singh brings over 30 years of professional experience in geological exploration, resource assessment, and project planning. His career spans multiple leadership roles at CMPDIL, where he contributed to the assessment and development of India’s coal resources. He has also served as the Nodal Officer to the Ministry of Coal, overseeing both promotional and detailed exploration projects nationwide.

Academic and Professional Background

An alumnus of Science College, Patna, and Patna University, Mr. Singh holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Geology. His academic foundation, combined with decades of practical experience, gives him deep expertise in modern exploration techniques, resource evaluation, and large-scale national projects. Experts believe his appointment will significantly strengthen CIL’s exploration initiatives and contribute to optimizing coal production and planning in the coming years.

Role and Expectations

As Executive Director (Exploration), Mr. Singh will be responsible for guiding CIL’s strategic exploration programs, enhancing the efficiency of geological surveys, and identifying new coal reserves. His leadership is expected to improve the quality and speed of coal resource development, ensuring that India’s coal sector continues to meet growing energy demands while maintaining sustainable mining practices.
