Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh continues to set benchmarks in rural development as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a review meeting of the Panchayati Raj Department on Friday evening. The meeting focused on accelerating the construction of individual toilets, development of gram panchayats, and implementation of plastic waste management units across the state.

Record Progress in Individual Toilet Construction

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the target for individual toilet construction in the current financial year was 9.67 lakh units, of which 4.79 lakh toilets have already been completed. This remarkable achievement places Uttar Pradesh at the top nationally in individual toilet construction.

Out of 17.26 lakh toilets constructed across India in the current financial year, 28% have been built in Uttar Pradesh alone, demonstrating the state’s commitment to improving sanitation and public health in rural areas.

Focus on Plastic Waste Management

The meeting also reviewed progress on plastic waste management units, with a target of 282 units for the year. Officials reported that 103 units have been completed, covering 304 development blocks and 515 urban MRFs (Material Recovery Facilities). 132 units are currently under construction. The Chief Minister instructed officials to accelerate the pace of work to meet the year’s targets.

Strengthening Gram Panchayats for Self-Reliance

CM Yogi emphasized that Uttar Pradesh can become self-reliant only when its gram panchayats are self-reliant. He directed officials to prepare action plans to increase the revenue and development capacity of gram panchayats. In addition, he stressed the importance of speeding up all development works at the village level, including the construction of community halls and other public infrastructure.

Directives for Accelerated Development

The Chief Minister underlined that the timely completion of toilets, community infrastructure, and waste management units is crucial for improving rural living standards. Officials were instructed to ensure that all ongoing projects are fast-tracked and completed efficiently.
