Kochi: Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a premier Defence PSU and India’s leading shipbuilding and repair company, has signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd. (KSOE), South Korea. This collaboration aims to foster long-term cooperation in shipbuilding and maritime development, enhancing technical expertise and advancing India’s position in the global maritime ecosystem.
Joint Exploration of Shipbuilding Opportunities and Workforce Development
The MoU outlines multiple key areas of collaboration including joint exploration of new shipbuilding projects both within India and internationally. Both companies will share technical expertise to elevate their shipbuilding processes to global standards, improve productivity and optimize capacity utilization.
Additionally, the partnership will focus on joint efforts to upskill the workforce, strengthening the talent pool in the sector, and exploring other related maritime projects to broaden the scope of cooperation.

This strategic partnership supports India’s Maritime India Vision 2030, which envisions developing the country into a global maritime hub. By enabling global collaboration and knowledge exchange, the MoU is expected to enhance self-reliance and competitiveness in the Indian shipbuilding sector.
The initiative is also in line with government efforts to boost maritime infrastructure and shipbuilding, exemplified by the recent Rs 250 billion Maritime Development Fund, aimed at accelerating investments in shipbuilding, port modernization, and infrastructure upgrades.
