The Dangote Group has appointed Engineers India Limited (EIL) as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) and EPCM Consultant for the major expansion of its world-class Fertilizer Complex located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Nigeria. The announcement marks a significant strengthening of the longstanding partnership between Africa’s largest industrial conglomerate and India’s premier engineering consultancy.
A Strategic Expansion of Africa’s Leading Fertilizer Facility
The Dangote Group one of West Africa’s most influential industrial forces with operations across 17 African nations currently operates a state-of-the-art Fertilizer Complex that produces 2.65 million tons of urea annually. Alongside its flagship 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery, the complex has already positioned the Lekki Free Zone as a major global hub for energy and industrial production.
Under the new expansion plan, Dangote will add four additional Ammonia–Urea production trains, creating a total of six integrated trains—one of the largest such fertilizer ecosystems anywhere in the world. Once the project is completed, Dangote Fertilizer’s total capacity will soar to 8 million tons of urea per year, placing it firmly among the world’s largest and most advanced nitrogenous fertilizer complexes.

EIL’s Engineering Leadership Recognised Once Again
Engineers India Limited, a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has long been associated with the Dangote Group. EIL served as the PMC and EPCM Consultant for the landmark 650,000 bpd Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex commissioned in 2024—one of the world’s most complex single-train refining facilities.
With deep expertise across oil & gas, fertilizers, petrochemicals, metallurgy, renewable energy, and infrastructure, EIL brings decades of multidisciplinary engineering strength and a global execution model to large-scale industrial projects.
The new contract underscores Dangote’s continued trust in EIL’s technical proficiency and project management excellence.
A Milestone for Africa’s Industrial Growth
The expansion of the Lekki Fertilizer Complex is poised to transform Africa’s agricultural and industrial landscape. By dramatically increasing indigenous urea production, the project will enhance regional food security, reduce reliance on imports, and potentially establish Nigeria as a major global exporter of fertilizers.
The expanded complex will also reinforce the Lekki Free Zone’s emergence as one of the world’s most integrated, high-capacity industrial corridors housing both the world’s largest single-train refinery and one of the largest fertilizer production ecosystems.
Leadership Reactions: Trust and Technological Ambition
Aliko Dangote, President, Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE, highlighted the significance of the collaboration:
“Engineers India Limited (EIL) has been appointed as the Project Management and EPCM Consultant for the expansion of the Dangote Fertilizer Complex in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, where four new urea trains will be added. This milestone further strengthens the long-standing partnership between Dangote and EIL, whose proven expertise and consistent excellence have made them our most trusted partner for both the Fertilizer Complex and the Refinery & Petrochemical Complex. With these projects, the Lekki industrial zone is emerging as the region’s powerhouse home to the world’s largest refinery and the world’s largest fertilizer complex.”
EIL’s Chairperson & Managing Director Vartika Shukla affirmed the company’s commitment to engineering leadership:
“EIL is proud to strengthen its partnership with the Dangote Group in shaping Africa’s industrial future. This expansion reflects our shared commitment to delivering world-scale assets with engineering excellence, project management expertise and technological leadership. The addition of four large-scale fertilizer trains positions the complex as a global-scale urea hub with six integrated production trains an achievement that underscores our collective focus on execution excellence and engineering leadership.”
A Major Win for India–Africa Industrial Collaboration
The new assignment enhances India’s presence in Africa’s rapidly evolving industrial economy and highlights the growing global reputation of Indian engineering capabilities. As EIL takes on the next phase of Dangote’s fertilizer expansion, the collaboration is set to deliver one of the largest and most advanced fertilizer complexes in the world reinforcing both nations’ shared vision for industrial growth and sustainable development.
