New Delhi: The Delhi government has proposed an allocation of nearly ₹1,330 crore for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in the 2026–27 financial year to undertake large-scale road paving and infrastructure development projects across the Capital. The move aims to strengthen civic infrastructure while significantly reducing dust pollution levels in the city.
₹1,330 Crore Allocation for Road Development
According to the government, the funds will be used for the construction, repair, and strengthening of nearly 1,000 kilometres of roads under the jurisdiction of the MCD. The civic body is responsible for sanitation services and maintenance of roads that are less than 60 feet wide.
Officials said the large-scale road upgrade is expected to play a crucial role in controlling dust pollution, particularly during the post-monsoon months of October and November, when Delhi’s air quality typically worsens.
Focus on Pollution Control and Infrastructure Strengthening
Poor road conditions and dust emissions are major contributors to Delhi’s air pollution crisis. By improving road infrastructure and strengthening damaged stretches, the government aims to reduce loose dust particles and improve overall commuting conditions.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the financial support reflects the government’s commitment to decentralised governance and efficient civic management. Special allocations have also been made under the Chief Minister’s Development Fund to support priority infrastructure works.
Deadline Set for September 2026
To ensure timely execution, the Chief Minister has directed officials to complete all major road improvement works by September 30, 2026, ahead of the high-pollution season.
She instructed departments to:
- Fast-track administrative approvals
- Begin advance project preparations
- Maintain full transparency in the tendering process
The government believes that timely completion of these projects will not only provide relief from pollution but also enhance the Capital’s overall infrastructure quality.
₹2,300 Crore Sanitation Modernisation Plan
In a parallel move to upgrade urban services, the Delhi government has approved a ₹2,300 crore sanitation modernisation project under a 10-year operational expenditure plan.
The initiative aims to overhaul the city’s sanitation system, improving waste management efficiency, cleanliness standards, and long-term sustainability of municipal services.
Strengthening Civic Services in 2026–27
With major allocations for road development and sanitation reform, the Delhi government’s 2026–27 civic plan signals a strong focus on:
- Urban infrastructure development
- Pollution control measures
- Improved sanitation systems
- Transparent and accountable governance
The proposed investments are expected to significantly improve road conditions, reduce dust-related pollution, and modernise sanitation services across the national capital.
