Top-Level Shake-Up in Delhi Police: 3 IPS Officers Reassigned Amid Security Concerns; Chahal Named DG, Civil Defence

After CM Attack, Major IPS Reshuffle in Delhi Police Leadership, DG Prisons, Civil Defence & Home Guard Posts Reassigned.

New Delhi: In a major administrative reshuffle, the Delhi government has transferred and reassigned three senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to critical positions, following recent developments in the capital’s security landscape. The changes come shortly after a high-profile security breach that saw an attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

SBK Singh Appointed DG, Prisons After Brief Stint as Delhi Police Chief

Senior IPS officer SBK Singh (IPS:1988:AGMUT), who served as the interim Commissioner of Delhi Police for 21 days, has been appointed as the new Director General of Prisons. His appointment follows the elevation of Satish Golcha (IPS:1992:AGMUT), the outgoing DG Prisons, to Commissioner of Police, Delhi, a day after the attack on the Chief Minister.

Singh’s experience and tenure are expected to bring stability and reform to Delhi’s prison administration, which has seen increased scrutiny in recent years.

Virendra Singh Chahal Transferred to DG, Civil Defence

Virendra Singh Chahal (IPS:1991:AGMUT), who was serving as Special Commissioner of Police in the Licensing & Legal Division, has now been appointed as the Director General of Civil Defence. With Chahal taking charge, the Civil Defence department is likely to focus more intensively on coordination during emergency responses and civic crises.

Nuzhat Hassan Takes Over as DG, Home Guard

In another crucial move, Nuzhat Hassan (IPS:1991:AGMUT), who was earlier heading the Human Resources Division of the Delhi Police as Special CP, has been appointed as the Director General of Home Guard. Her new role places her in command of the Home Guard wing—an important support arm in maintaining law and order and assisting during civic duties.

Security Reshuffle Comes in Wake of CM Attack

The reshuffle follows heightened security concerns after the August 21 attack on CM Rekha Gupta, which triggered demands for stronger internal vigilance and more robust policing structures across the capital.

The appointment of trusted senior officers to top positions is seen as part of the government’s larger strategy to strengthen Delhi’s law enforcement and auxiliary forces amid rising political and security challenges.
