Delhi: The Delhi government has extended the Water Amnesty Scheme until August 2026, providing relief to domestic, non-residential, and commercial consumers. Under this scheme, penalties, interest, and surcharges are waived, giving citizens substantial financial relief.
So far, approximately ₹1,400 crore in penalties has been waived, and by August, a total of ₹74,293 crore in penalties will be completely cleared. Commercial consumers can now also avail 100% surcharge waiver on late payments.
₹2,100 Crore Water and Sewer Projects Launched in Delhi
On 18 February 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated and laid the foundation for over ₹2,100 crore worth of water supply and sewer infrastructure projects at Todapur, West Delhi. These projects aim to ensure clean drinking water for every household and modernize the city’s sewer system.
Key initiatives include:
- Upgradation of Nilothi and Pappankalan STPs
- Replacement of old Haiderpur pipelines at a cost of ₹70 crore
- Launch of large-scale water supply packages in Chandrawal worth over ₹1,258 crore
- Door-to-door sewer connections in Begumpur, Wazirabad, Ranhola, and Sant Nagar
These efforts will ensure regular, safe, and reliable water supply while controlling untreated sewage discharge into the Yamuna River.
Focus on Modern and Efficient Water Management
The government’s projects are designed to improve:
- Sewer treatment capacity to reduce untreated water discharge
- Pipeline networks for faster, uninterrupted water supply
- Door-to-door sewage connectivity to prevent waterlogging and maintain hygiene in densely populated areas
The upgrades and new installations reflect Delhi’s commitment to transforming the city’s water and sewer infrastructure “in mission mode”, aligning with the vision of a developed and modern capital.
