New Delhi: The Department of Defence (DoD) has conducted 6,899 cleanliness campaigns across its attached and subordinate offices between January and August 2025. The initiative forms part of the ongoing Swachhta Abhiyan, aimed at promoting hygiene, workplace efficiency, and resource optimisation.
Impact on Space and Revenue
Through these drives, the DoD cleared 4,98,674 square feet of office space. The disposal of obsolete materials generated ₹135.64 crore in revenue. Activities included removal of outdated equipment, clearance of physical files, and both indoor and outdoor cleanliness operations.
Participation Across Defence Offices
Key departments participated in the campaign, including the Directorate General Defence Estates, Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services, Director General of Border Roads, Controller General of Defence Accounts, and Canteen Stores Department. Their involvement ensured wide-scale coverage and uniform implementation across the defence establishment.
Building on Past Performance
The DoD had emerged as one of the top performers during the nationwide Special Campaign-cum-Swachhata Abhiyan 4.0 held last year. That drive covered 3,832 field offices, setting a benchmark for this year’s expanded efforts.
Swachhta as a Daily Practice
Over the years, Swachhata has grown from being an annual campaign to becoming a daily operational practice. The DoD continues to focus on creating clutter-free, efficient workplaces with proper disposal systems and better utilisation of resources. This transformation reflects the department’s commitment to embedding cleanliness into organisational culture.
