New Delhi: The Department of Posts (DoP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ESRI India Technologies Private Limited on September 1, 2025. The collaboration aims to enhance the DIGIPIN initiative with advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) solutions, making the system more accurate, robust, and citizen-friendly.
Enhancing DIGIPIN with GIS Technology
Under the MoU, DoP will use ESRI India’s high-resolution imagery and street basemaps to strengthen the DIGIPIN portal. The agreement also enables integration of DIGIPIN with ESRI India’s Living Atlas portal, allowing wider accessibility for the global GIS community. ESRI India will provide technical support to ensure seamless integration and implementation.
Building a Citizen-Friendly Addressing System
The MoU was signed at Dak Bhawan in New Delhi in the presence of senior officials. Speaking on the occasion, Harpreet Singh, Member (Operations), Department of Posts, said the collaboration is a major step toward realizing the DIGIPIN vision. “With ESRI’s robust base maps and geospatial technology, DIGIPIN will empower citizens and government services with accuracy and accessibility,” he noted.
Agendra Kumar, Managing Director of ESRI India, expressed pride in supporting the landmark initiative. “Our GIS expertise and advanced mapping solutions will make DIGIPIN a robust digital addressing system, driving efficiency across sectors and advancing India’s digital transformation,” he said.
Strengthening Service Delivery and Citizen Engagement
Officials underlined that the partnership represents a significant milestone in the ground-level implementation of DIGIPIN. By combining ESRI India’s mapping capabilities with DoP’s vast nationwide network, the initiative will provide greater precision and user-friendliness. The enhanced system is expected to improve service delivery, support governance, and strengthen citizen engagement across India.
