Dr PPK Ramacharyulu was appointed as the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha by the Chairman Mr. M Venkaiya Naidu on Tuesday. He succeeded Mr Desh Deepak who was serving in this position for the last 4 years.
Mr. Ramacharyulu has been serving in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat as secretary since 2018. It is for the 1st time in the 70 year’s history of Rajya Sabha that an insider is appointed to such a top position from the ranks of Secretariat. This has happened only in lok sabha where 9 such Insiders have been appointed in the position of the secretary general of lok sabha.
Mr Ramacharyulu is a senior official of Rajya Sabha Secretariat who joined it in 1983.
