New Delhi: The government has extended the tenure of Dr. Rajiv Mani, ILS, Secretary, Legislative Department, Ministry of Law & Justice, from 09.01.2026 to 31.07.2028, coinciding with his date of superannuation.

In addition, Dr. Mani has been entrusted with the additional charge of Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs following the relieving of Dr. Anju Rathi Rana, ILS, until a regular incumbent is appointed.

About Dr. Rajiv Mani

Dr. Rajiv Mani is a distinguished officer of the Indian Legal Service (ILS) and currently serves as Secretary, Legislative Department, Ministry of Law & Justice.

He oversees the legal advisory functions for multiple Central Ministries and Departments and plays a key role in legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening the Ease of Doing Business in India. His efforts include reforms to facilitate fast-track adjudication of commercial disputes under the Commercial Courts Act, 2015.

Dr. Mani has been closely associated with the promotion of Institutional Arbitration and Mediation in India and contributed to amendments in the Arbitration and Conciliation Act (2019 & 2021), the establishment of IIAC under the IIAC Act, 2019, and the enactment of the Mediation Act, 2023.

International Representation and Academic Contributions

Dr. Mani has represented India internationally, including:

  • UK delegation visit led by Law & Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad (July 2018)
  • Commonwealth Law Ministries meeting at Marlborough House, London (October 2018)
  • Law, Justice and Development Week at World Bank, Washington D.C. (November 2018)

He is also a Member of the Chamber of Arbitration of IIAC, the Governing Body of ICPS, and the Indian Council of Arbitration.

Academic and Training Contributions

A Ph.D. in Constitutional Law, Dr. Mani has been guest faculty at the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST) and has delivered lectures on Constitutional Law and Parliamentary procedures to legislators, foreign delegates, and newly recruited officers of the All India Services (AIS) and other government services.
